Laser cutting uses a beam of light the width of a human hair to cut, engrave, and shape designs from a variety of materials.
- The Glowforge can cut wood, fabric, leather, paper, Plexiglas (acrylic), Delrin (acetal), Mylar, Corian and more.
- Glowforge can also engrave all of the above plus glass, coated metal, marble, anodized aluminum, titanium, ceramic tile and more
The Glowforge performs well with many materials 1/4 in (0.6 cm) and less on a single pass. It can accommodate material as thick as 1/2 in (1.2 cm), but may require multiple passes or flipping the material over. For engraving, you can remove the tray and insert objects as thick as 2 in (5 cm). It can then engrave the surface up to 0.5 in (1.2 cm), depending on the material.
The Glowforge uses Cloud-based software and is accessed from Square Lemon's laptop.
Because of its versatility, your designs can be created with any software that saves a PDF, JPG, PNG or SVG. Adobe Illustrator, Inkscape, CorelDraw, Adobe Photoshop, GIMP, Autodesk 360, and many others are all great choices.
The great advantage of this is that you can create your design at home, and then come to Square Lemon, upload your design, add your settings, and push the button! And if something is not quite right, you can alter your design in your graphic software and try again. Quick iterations of design are a major plus with laser cutting.
Very important notes:
Before using the Glowforge, you must take a safety and instruction session with a Lemon. We don't want you to hurt yourself, or burn down Square Lemon!
All material to be used on the Glowforge must be approved in advance, as certain materials are incompatible with CO2 laser cutting.
