Decoupaged Jar for Valentine's Day

I was scrolling through Pinterest looking for cute DIY Valentine's Day gift ideas, and I decided to make a decoupaged jar. This was my first decoupage project. I've always been curious about decoupage, but never got around to trying it. I used a pretty plaid printed napkin, as my partner is a big plaid fan. I think it turned out reasonably well for my first attempt, and I really enjoyed the process!

I started by painting the jar with three coats of white acrylic paint as a base, allowing the paint dry for approximately 20 to 30 mins between coats. Then I cut the napkin to fit the jar, and carefully glued it to the jar with Modge Podge. I glued little sections at a time, and worked my way around the jar. I could have worked a bit slower to get a smoother finish. It's definitely trickier working with a round jar. The YouTube tutorial I watched in preparation for this project used a square jar! Another thing I would improve on in the future is the overlap. I overlapped the napkin by about an inch. I could have only overlapped it by a few millimeters for a nicer look.
I finished by using 3 coats of Modge Podge to seal the napkin. I allowed the jar a full 24 hours to dry. I think it looks pretty neat! I'm going to fill it with little love notes for my partner to read. Cheesy, huh?
Have you ever done a decoupage project before? Were you a fan? Happy Valentine's Day in advance!
